Pocket-lint refuses to watch 1080p video any longer. After we got eyes-on with Sharp's 8K4K LCD over in Berlin at IFA, anything less than 33 million pixels feels like blur-o-vision.
But we suppose we'd make do with the Sony VPL-VW100ES - the company's first 4K projector designed with the living room in mind. After all, it does pack a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast along with the native 4k resolution, which is four times that of your Full HD telly.
It's also able to upscale your 1080p footage, as well as displaying Full HD 3D and 4K upscaling 3D movies. It also boasts a 0.74-inch 4K SXRD panel that has been optimised for minimum light reflection and the size of each pixel has been reduced from 7μm to 4μm.
"The VPL-VW1000ES is just the latest in a complete series of Sony home projectors," said Tak Nakane, product manager from Sony Europe.
"Last year at IFA, Sony released its first 3D home projector, the VPL-VW90ES, and in June of this year, the VPL-HW30ES projector joined the line as a high-performance, entry-level 3D model. Most recently, the VPL-VW95ES was announced at IFA as a mid-level 3D home projector option. And today with its truly advanced resolution, the new VPL-VW1000ES 4K home theatre projector delivers on the promise of the future of home entertainment – today."
Out this year, there's no word yet as to how much the Sony VPL-VW100ES will cost.
